How to Get “Toned”
I know a lot of you have been following me since day one of my Tumblr blog… so you have heard this a zillion times (I apologize lol). But believe it or not, I still get told daily by girls that they are afraid to lift weights, for fear of getting “bulky” or “manly”.
This myth is one of my biggest pet peeves, because all too often, it stands in the way of girls achieving their “tone” goals. Tone is MUSCLE with a lowered body fat. You cannot turn fat into muscle, it is physically impossible (they are two entirely separate tissues).
So in order to achieve “tone” you must BUILD muscle and lower your body fat. You can do this by incorporating challenging resistance training (heavy weights, not those 3 lb beauty bells), eating clean with plenty of protein (I consume at least 120 grams a day), getting enough sleep (I aim for 7 hours a night), and drinking plenty of water (I drink a gallon a day).
Think of it this way, if you’re anything like me, your purse probably weighs at least 15lbs lol. You lift that everyday, you lift your hair dryer, you lift your plate and water bottle.. does that “tone” you? No! So why would lifting a 3lb dumbbell do that? While we all have to start somewhere, it’s important to gradually increase the weight as you get stronger.

I believe the hardest part about losing weight is not knowing if what you’re doing is making a difference. Results take time and I have little patience. It’s difficult to wait for results. But I know I have to keep pushing and trust that what I’m doing is making a difference. Because the only way you will reach your goal is if you believe in yourself.
